About the product›
Erastapex 40 Mg 30 Tablets
Description:
Erastapex 40 mg 30 tablets is a prescription antihypertensive medicine containing olmesartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It is used for the long-term management of high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults, helping to lower and control blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications such as heart attack and stroke. Erastapex is formulated as film-coated tablets for once-daily oral use and is manufactured by Multi-Apex.
Indications:
- Treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults.
- Helps reduce elevated blood pressure to lower the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage associated with uncontrolled hypertension.
- May be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents (such as diuretics or calcium channel blockers) as directed by a physician.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Olmesartan medoxomil – 40 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Excipients (tablet core and coating) – exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; refer to the package leaflet for full inactive ingredient list.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Adults: The usual recommended starting dose of olmesartan is 20 mg once daily. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose may be increased up to 40 mg once daily, as prescribed by the doctor. Erastapex 40 mg tablets are typically used when a 40 mg daily dose is required.
- Take the tablet orally once a day, at the same time each day, with or without food, as advised by your healthcare provider.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the film-coated tablet unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically instructs you to do so.
- Use exactly as prescribed. Do not change your dose or stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well, as high blood pressure often has no symptoms.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed tablet.
- Special populations (elderly, patients with kidney or liver impairment): dosing adjustments may be required. Follow your doctor’s specific instructions.
Clinical Benefits:
- Effectively lowers elevated blood pressure by blocking the action of angiotensin II at AT1 receptors, leading to vasodilation and reduced peripheral resistance.
- Helps protect the heart and blood vessels by reducing the strain on the cardiovascular system, thereby lowering the risk of heart attack and stroke associated with long-term hypertension.
- Supports kidney protection, particularly in patients with high blood pressure, by improving blood flow and reducing pressure within the kidneys.
- Provides convenient once-daily dosing with 40 mg strength, supporting better adherence to antihypertensive therapy and more stable blood pressure control over 24 hours.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to olmesartan medoxomil or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to the risk of serious harm to the fetus (including fetal toxicity and death). If pregnancy is detected, stop Erastapex immediately and consult a doctor.
- Not recommended during breastfeeding unless clearly needed and only under medical supervision, as it is unknown whether olmesartan is excreted in human milk.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, renal artery stenosis, severe heart failure, or liver impairment; dose adjustments and close monitoring may be required.
- May cause symptomatic hypotension, particularly in patients who are volume- or salt-depleted (e.g., those on high-dose diuretics, with vomiting, diarrhea, or low-salt diet). Such conditions should be corrected before starting therapy or monitored closely.
- Hyperkalemia (elevated blood potassium) may occur, especially when used with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or other drugs that increase potassium. Regular monitoring of serum potassium is advised when appropriate.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of angioedema with other drugs affecting the renin-angiotensin system; seek immediate medical attention if swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat occurs.
- May interact with other antihypertensives, diuretics, NSAIDs, lithium, and other agents affecting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have medical conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, dehydration, or electrolyte imbalance.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease outside its approved medical indications.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, or mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea or abdominal pain. These are usually mild and transient.
- Less common side effects can include low blood pressure (hypotension), especially in volume-depleted patients, increased blood potassium (hyperkalemia), or changes in kidney function (elevated creatinine or urea levels).
- Rare but serious side effects include allergic reactions or angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, fainting, or signs of kidney problems (such as decreased urine output or swelling of legs and ankles).
- Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you experience difficulty breathing, severe swelling, chest pain, or any other severe or unusual symptoms.
- This is not a complete list of side effects. Refer to the package leaflet and consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
