Ezapril-Co 20/12.5mg ⚠ 30 tabs ⚠
Description:
Ezapril-Co 20/12.5mg is a prescription anti-hypertensive medicine combining an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor (enalapril) with a thiazide diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide) in a single oral tablet. It is used for the treatment and long-term control of high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults, helping to reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage. By relaxing blood vessels and promoting gentle removal of excess salt and water, Ezapril-Co provides effective blood pressure reduction and convenient once-daily dosing. This product is manufactured by Multi-Apex and is intended for use only under medical supervision.
Indications:
- Treatment of essential (primary) hypertension in adults.
- Management of high blood pressure in patients who require combination therapy with an ACE inhibitor and a thiazide diuretic.
- Patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with enalapril or hydrochlorothiazide alone (as determined by a physician).
- Reduction of cardiovascular risk associated with uncontrolled hypertension, such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and hypertensive complications affecting the kidneys, heart, and blood vessels (as part of a comprehensive treatment plan).
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Enalapril maleate – 20 mg per tablet (ACE inhibitor).
- Hydrochlorothiazide – 12.5 mg per tablet (thiazide diuretic).
- Other inactive ingredients (excipients) are present to form the tablet; detailed excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Usual adult dose: As prescribed by the physician. A common regimen is 1 tablet once daily, preferably taken at the same time each day. Do not change your dose without consulting your doctor.
- Route of administration: Oral. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist advises otherwise.
- With or without food: Ezapril-Co can generally be taken with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, taking it with food may help.
- Duration of use: Long-term treatment as directed by your doctor to maintain blood pressure control. Do not stop taking the medicine suddenly without medical advice, even if you feel well.
- Missed dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed tablet.
- Special populations: Dose adjustment may be required in elderly patients, patients with kidney impairment, liver disease, or those on other blood pressure medications. Use only under close medical supervision.
- Do not use in children unless specifically prescribed by a pediatric specialist (safety and dosing in children are not routinely established).
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides dual blood pressure control by relaxing blood vessels (via enalapril) and promoting excretion of excess salt and water (via hydrochlorothiazide).
- Helps reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as stroke, heart attack, and heart failure when used as part of a comprehensive hypertension management plan.
- Supports kidney protection in hypertensive patients by lowering intravascular pressure and improving blood flow (especially important in patients at risk of kidney damage, as assessed by their physician).
- Convenient fixed-dose combination (20/12.5 mg) in a single tablet, which may enhance treatment adherence compared to taking separate medicines.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to enalapril, other ACE inhibitors, hydrochlorothiazide, sulfonamide-derived drugs, or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat) associated with previous ACE inhibitor therapy or hereditary/idiopathic angioedema.
- Contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to risk of serious fetal harm (ACE inhibitors can cause injury and death to the developing fetus). If pregnancy is detected, discontinue immediately and contact a doctor.
- Contraindicated in severe kidney impairment, anuria (no urine output), or severe liver disease unless specifically evaluated and supervised by a specialist.
- Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis, heart failure, dehydration, low blood pressure, electrolyte disturbances (especially low sodium or potassium imbalance), gout, diabetes, or a history of severe allergic reactions.
- Drug interactions for enalapril: Antacids may decrease the effectiveness of ACE inhibitors; indomethacin and other NSAIDs may reduce the hypotensive effect; digoxin levels may increase; potassium preparations and potassium-sparing diuretics may cause hyperkalaemia and increase risk of renal failure; lithium may reach toxic levels due to increased serum concentration; immunosuppressive drugs may increase risk of bone marrow depression; antidepressants, diuretics, beta-blockers, nitrates, dopaminergics, calcium channel blockers, and phenothiazines may enhance the hypotensive effect; morphine may have enhanced analgesic effect and respiratory depression.
- Drug interactions for hydrochlorothiazide: Cholestyramine and colestipol may decrease absorption of hydrochlorothiazide; diazoxide may cause additive action leading to hyperglycaemia, hyperuricaemia, and hypotension; digitalis toxicity may be precipitated by diuretic-induced hypokalaemia; lithium therapeutic and toxic effects may be potentiated.
- Monitor blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes (especially potassium, sodium, and creatinine) regularly as advised by your doctor.
- May cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially at the start of treatment or when the dose is increased. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, planning pregnancy, taking other medications, or if you have medical conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, heart failure, gout, or electrolyte imbalance.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Not intended for self-diagnosis or self-treatment of hypertension. Use only on a doctor’s prescription and follow medical advice carefully.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, dry cough (typical of ACE inhibitors), low blood pressure (hypotension), nausea, abdominal discomfort, or increased urination due to the diuretic component.
- Metabolic changes such as changes in potassium, sodium, uric acid, or blood glucose levels may occur; your doctor may request blood tests to monitor these parameters.
- Less common but serious side effects include angioedema (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat), severe hypotension, kidney function deterioration, severe skin reactions, or jaundice. Stop the medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you experience difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, severe dizziness, fainting, or signs of allergic reaction.
- If you notice persistent cough, unusual muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, extreme thirst, confusion, or significant changes in urination, contact your doctor promptly.
