Singulair 5 Mg 14 Tablets

Description:

Singulair 5 mg is a prescription oral anti-asthma medicine containing montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist. It is commonly used as a maintenance treatment to help prevent asthma symptoms, including wheezing and shortness of breath, and to control allergy-related breathing problems. This pack contains 14 chewable tablets, typically prescribed for children and adolescents who require once-daily control of asthma and allergic airway inflammation. Singulair is not a rescue medication for sudden asthma attacks but is used regularly to improve long-term asthma control and reduce the need for other reliever medicines.

Indications:

  • Long-term management and prophylaxis of chronic asthma.
  • Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in patients where a doctor recommends montelukast.
  • Relief and control of asthma symptoms such as wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
  • Adjunct treatment in patients with asthma and concomitant seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis, as directed by a physician.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Montelukast sodium – 5 mg per chewable tablet (as montelukast) – leukotriene (CysLT1) receptor antagonist.
  • Other inactive ingredients (excipients, sweeteners, flavoring agents, coloring agents) are present but specific names and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use only as prescribed by a physician. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
  • Typical pediatric dose (for children for whom 5 mg chewable tablets are indicated) is 1 chewable tablet (5 mg) once daily in the evening, or as directed by the doctor. Exact age range and dosing must follow the prescribing information from your healthcare provider.
  • Tablets are chewable: the child should thoroughly chew the tablet before swallowing. Administer with or without food unless the doctor advises otherwise.
  • For asthma control, take Singulair regularly every day, even when there are no symptoms. Do not stop treatment abruptly without consulting the doctor.
  • Singulair is not intended for the relief of acute asthma attacks. In case of sudden breathing difficulty or wheezing, use a fast-acting inhaled bronchodilator as prescribed and seek medical advice.
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps prevent asthma attacks by blocking leukotriene-mediated bronchoconstriction and airway inflammation.
  • Improves control of chronic asthma symptoms, reducing episodes of wheezing, chest tightness, and night-time awakenings due to asthma.
  • May reduce the need for rescue inhalers and other short-acting bronchodilators when used regularly as part of an asthma management plan.
  • Provides convenient once-daily oral dosing in a chewable tablet form, making it easier for children and adolescents to adhere to therapy.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to montelukast or any component of the formulation.
  • Not a rescue medicine: do not use Singulair to treat sudden asthma attacks. Always keep a fast-acting inhaler available as advised by your doctor.
  • Neuropsychiatric events (including agitation, aggressive behavior, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and very rarely suicidal thoughts and behavior) have been reported with montelukast. Discontinue and consult a doctor immediately if such symptoms occur.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; dose adjustment or close monitoring may be required as directed by a physician.
  • Drug interactions: barbiturates and primidone (e.g., phenobarbital) may reduce plasma concentrations of montelukast and decrease its effectiveness. Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Montelukast should be used during pregnancy or lactation only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
  • Do not stop or change any asthma medication (including inhaled corticosteroids) without medical supervision, even if you feel better.
  • Monitor asthma control regularly. Seek immediate medical attention if breathing problems worsen, if rescue inhaler use increases, or if there are signs of severe asthma exacerbation.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Use only under adult supervision in pediatric patients.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision and prescription.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, thirst, and mild gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Other reported side effects can include upper respiratory tract infections, cough, dizziness, rash, and tiredness.
  • Neuropsychiatric side effects (such as irritability, agitation, abnormal dreams, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and very rarely suicidal thoughts or behavior) have been reported. If any mood or behavior changes occur, stop the medication and contact a doctor immediately.
  • Allergic reactions (such as rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, or difficulty breathing) are rare but require urgent medical attention.
  • If any side effect is severe, persistent, or not listed in the patient leaflet, consult your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
