Tiratam 1000 Mg 30 Tablets
Description:
Tiratam 1000 mg 30 tablets is a prescription antiepileptic medicine containing levetiracetam, used for the treatment and control of epilepsy and seizures. It is formulated as film-coated tablets for oral use and is commonly prescribed as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in adults and adolescents with various types of seizures. Levetiracetam acts on synaptic vesicle protein SV2A in the brain to help stabilize abnormal electrical activity and reduce the frequency and severity of seizures. This product is intended for use under medical supervision only.
Indications:
- Treatment of partial-onset (focal) seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults and adolescents, as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy.
- Adjunctive therapy in myoclonic seizures in adults and adolescents with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME).
- Adjunctive therapy in primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults and adolescents with idiopathic generalized epilepsy.
- May be used off-label under specialist supervision for neuropathic pain, Tourette syndrome, autism-related irritability, and certain anxiety disorders (only when prescribed by a physician).
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Levetiracetam – 1000 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Excipients: Film-coating and tablet core excipients (such as fillers, binders, disintegrants, and colorants) – exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Please refer to the official package insert for full excipient list.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use only as prescribed by a neurologist or qualified physician.
- Typical adult dosing: levetiracetam is usually taken twice daily (morning and evening), with or without food. The exact dose and schedule are individualized based on seizure type, response, and tolerability.
- For 1000 mg strength, the tablet may be used as part of a total daily dose divided into two doses (for example, 500 mg–1500 mg twice daily, as directed by the doctor). Do not adjust your dose without medical advice.
- Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew unless your doctor specifically advises otherwise.
- If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Do not stop taking Tiratam suddenly without consulting your doctor, as abrupt discontinuation may increase seizure frequency or cause withdrawal seizures. Dose should be tapered gradually under medical supervision.
- Use in children and adolescents must strictly follow pediatric specialist instructions, with dosing based on body weight and clinical condition.
Clinical Benefits:
- Helps control and reduce the frequency of partial-onset, myoclonic, and generalized tonic-clonic seizures.
- Can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antiepileptic drugs, providing flexible treatment options.
- Generally has a predictable pharmacokinetic profile with minimal drug–drug interactions compared to some older antiepileptic medicines.
- May improve quality of life by stabilizing seizure control, thereby supporting daily functioning, safety, and independence in patients with epilepsy.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or any of the excipients.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment; dose adjustment may be required based on kidney function. Your doctor may order kidney function tests.
- May cause mood changes, irritability, aggression, depression, or suicidal thoughts. Monitor closely for behavioral or psychiatric symptoms, especially at treatment initiation or dose changes. Seek medical advice immediately if such symptoms occur.
- May cause dizziness, drowsiness, or fatigue. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks requiring full alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
- Alcohol and other central nervous system depressants may enhance drowsiness or dizziness; consult your doctor before consuming alcohol.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: consult your doctor before use. Do not start or stop antiepileptic therapy during pregnancy without medical advice, as uncontrolled seizures can be harmful to both mother and fetus.
- Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, to avoid potential interactions.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without a doctor’s prescription and supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.

- Psychiatric and behavioral effects: anxiety, agitation, depression, mood swings, aggression, or suicidal thoughts may occur in some patients. Seek medical attention immediately if severe mood or behavior changes appear.
- Other possible effects: hair loss, insomnia, tremor, abdominal pain, or infection-like symptoms (such as fever or sore throat).
- Serious but less common side effects: severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face or tongue, difficulty breathing), severe skin reactions, or blood disorders. Stop the medicine and seek urgent medical help if these occur.
