About the product›
Tiratam Xr 500 Mg Tablets
Description:
Tiratam Xr 500 mg tablets are an extended-release prescription anti-epileptic medicine containing levetiracetam. They are used as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in the management of epilepsy to help control partial-onset and generalized seizures in adults and adolescents as directed by a neurologist. The extended-release (xr) formulation is designed to provide a gradual and sustained release of the active ingredient over an extended period, helping to maintain stable blood levels with convenient once-daily dosing. This product is intended for medical use only under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
Indications:
- Adjunctive treatment of partial-onset (focal) seizures with or without secondary generalization in patients with epilepsy, as prescribed by a physician.
- Monotherapy or adjunctive therapy for certain generalized seizures (such as myoclonic or tonic-clonic seizures) where levetiracetam is indicated, according to the treating neurologist’s judgment.
- Helps reduce seizure frequency and severity in patients diagnosed with epilepsy.
- May be used in patients who are not adequately controlled with other anti-epileptic medicines, as part of a comprehensive seizure-management plan.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Levetiracetam – 500 mg per extended-release film-coated tablet.
- Other tablet components (excipients, coating agents, stabilizers) are present but specific names and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Please refer to the official package leaflet for the full excipient list.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change your dose or stop taking the medicine without medical advice.
- Typical adult dosing for levetiracetam is usually taken twice daily for immediate-release forms; however, Tiratam Xr 500 mg is an extended-release formulation generally intended for once-daily dosing. The exact dose, timing, and titration schedule must be determined by the treating physician.
- Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablets, as this may affect the extended-release properties.
- Can be taken with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
- Do not stop taking Tiratam Xr suddenly, as abrupt discontinuation may increase the risk of seizures. Any dose reduction or discontinuation must be gradual and supervised by your doctor.
- For children and adolescents, dosing is weight-based and must be carefully adjusted by a pediatric neurologist or physician experienced in epilepsy management.
Clinical Benefits:
- Helps control and reduce the frequency of epileptic seizures by modulating abnormal neuronal activity in the brain.
- Extended-release formulation supports more stable blood levels of levetiracetam, which may improve seizure control and reduce fluctuations in effect.
- Once-daily dosing can enhance treatment adherence and convenience for patients requiring long-term anti-epileptic therapy.
- Can be used as adjunctive therapy alongside other anti-epileptic medicines, providing additional seizure control in patients not fully managed on a single agent.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Use only under the supervision of a healthcare professional experienced in the treatment of epilepsy.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to levetiracetam or any of the excipients in the formulation.
- May cause mood changes, irritability, aggression, anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts in some patients. Inform your doctor immediately if you notice significant changes in mood or behavior.
- Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment; dose adjustment may be required based on kidney function.
- May cause drowsiness, dizziness, or fatigue. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks that require full alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
- Alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may enhance sedative effects; discuss alcohol use with your doctor.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Anti-epileptic therapy should not be stopped abruptly during pregnancy without medical advice, as uncontrolled seizures can be harmful to both mother and baby.
- Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including other anti-epileptics, to avoid potential interactions.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without appropriate medical supervision; it is a prescription-only medicine for confirmed or suspected epilepsy.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, headache, irritability, and weakness.
- Gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, or abdominal discomfort may occur.
- Neuropsychiatric side effects can include anxiety, agitation, depression, mood swings, or behavioral changes.
- Less commonly, hair loss has been reported with levetiracetam use.
- Serious side effects (seek urgent medical attention) may include severe mood or behavior changes, suicidal thoughts, severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing), or signs of severe skin reactions.
