Zanoglide 2/30 Mg 30 Tablets
Description:
Zanoglide 2/30 mg 30 tablets is an oral antidiabetic prescription medicine used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It combines two active ingredients, glimepiride and pioglitazone, to help control high blood sugar levels in adults when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient. Glimepiride is a third‑generation sulfonylurea that increases insulin release from the pancreas and improves tissue sensitivity to insulin, while pioglitazone is a thiazolidinedione that enhances insulin sensitivity in muscle, liver, and adipose tissue. This dual-action therapy helps improve glycemic control, reduce fasting and postprandial blood glucose, and support long-term diabetes management as part of a comprehensive treatment plan including diet, exercise, and regular blood glucose monitoring.
Indications:
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, particularly patients insufficiently controlled by diet, exercise, and/or monotherapy with either sulfonylurea or thiazolidinedione.
- Improvement of glycemic control (fasting and postprandial blood glucose) in type 2 diabetic patients.
- Reduction of symptoms associated with uncontrolled blood sugar such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and blurred vision when used as part of an overall diabetes management plan.
- May be used in combination with other antidiabetic agents (such as metformin or insulin) when prescribed by a physician.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Glimepiride – 2 mg per tablet (third-generation sulfonylurea oral antidiabetic agent).
- Pioglitazone – 30 mg per tablet (thiazolidinedione class insulin sensitizer).
- Excipients: Other inactive ingredients (tablet core and coating) are present but specific excipient names and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use Zanoglide exactly as prescribed by your physician. Do not change your dose or stop the medicine without medical advice.
- Typical adult dose: Often started at the lowest effective dose based on previous antidiabetic therapy and blood glucose levels. The exact starting and maintenance dose must be determined by the treating physician. The fixed combination here provides 2 mg glimepiride and 30 mg pioglitazone per tablet.
- Frequency: Usually taken once daily, or as directed by your doctor, at approximately the same time each day.
- Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew unless your doctor advises otherwise.
- With or without food: Glimepiride-containing products are generally taken with breakfast or the first main meal of the day to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. Follow your doctor’s specific instructions.
- Monitoring: Regular monitoring of blood glucose and HbA1c is required to assess response and adjust dosage if needed.
- Missed dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Duration of use: Long-term treatment as directed by your physician as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan including diet, exercise, and lifestyle modification.
Clinical Benefits:
- Helps lower and stabilize blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
- Combines two complementary mechanisms: glimepiride enhances pancreatic insulin secretion, while pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues.
- Improves glucose tolerance and overall glycemic control, reflected in reduced fasting plasma glucose and HbA1c levels when used as directed.
- Supports better utilization of insulin by increasing insulin receptor number and improving post-receptor signaling in target tissues such as liver, muscle, and adipose tissue.
- May reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications when used long term as part of a comprehensive management plan including diet, exercise, and regular medical follow-up.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- For use only in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Not indicated for type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
- Risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) due to glimepiride, especially in elderly patients, those with irregular meal patterns, intense physical exercise, or when used with other hypoglycemic agents. Recognize symptoms such as sweating, tremor, hunger, palpitations, dizziness, and confusion.
- Pioglitazone may cause or exacerbate fluid retention and can lead to or worsen congestive heart failure. Contraindicated in patients with established heart failure (New York Heart Association class III or IV) and used with caution in those with cardiac disease.
- Use with caution in patients with liver impairment. Liver function tests may be required before and during treatment with pioglitazone-containing products.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, pioglitazone, or any component of the formulation.
- Not recommended in patients with severe renal impairment unless carefully monitored; dose adjustment may be required.
- May cause weight gain and edema, particularly due to pioglitazone. Monitor body weight and signs of fluid retention.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Insulin is usually preferred during pregnancy; glimepiride and pioglitazone are generally not recommended.
- Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including other antidiabetics, antihypertensives, diuretics, corticosteroids, NSAIDs, and herbal supplements, as interactions may alter blood glucose control.
- Alcohol intake may increase the risk of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia; limit or avoid alcohol while using this medicine.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease outside its approved indication for type 2 diabetes mellitus.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), headache, dizziness, nausea, mild gastrointestinal discomfort, weight gain, and edema (swelling of ankles or legs).
- Less common side effects: Visual disturbances (usually transient at the start of therapy), upper respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, and mild anemia.
- Serious side effects: Severe hypoglycemia, signs of heart failure (shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, swelling of feet or ankles), liver dysfunction (dark urine, yellowing of skin or eyes, persistent nausea), and allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing).
- Stop the medication and seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of severe hypoglycemia, chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe allergic reaction, or signs of liver or heart problems.
